Abstract Football player and entrepreneur David Duerson was born on November 28, 1960, in Muncie, Indiana. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame, Duerson joined the Chicago Bears in 1983. In 1990, he left to join the New York Giants, and finished his career with the Phoenix Cardinals in 1993. In his football career, he earned two Super Bowl rings. After leaving the NFL, Duerson bought three McDonald's restaurants. In 1995, Duerson was named CEO of Fair Oaks Farms, the primary supplier of sausage to McDonald's worldwide. Under his leadership, profits grew from $38 million to $63.4 million. In 2002, Duerson then opened Duerson Foods, which provided sausage to companies across the country, including Burger King and White Castle. Duerson was active with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and sat on the board of the University of Notre Dame. He passed away on February 17, 2011 at age 51.
